2019 Naturist Tour starts in February with theme, Naturists Relax Naturally

With the opening on February 14, 2019 of the Mid-Winter Naturist Festival (see related article below), the 2019 edition of the annual Naturist Tour of nude gatherings and festivals that The Naturist Society Foundation (TNSF) organizes or sanctions, respectively, kicks off. The theme of the 2019 tour is Naturists Relax Naturally. The tour comprises the events listed below. TNSF and the local hosts urge participants to sign up as soon as possible after registration opens for each event that they want to attend, which helps in planning. Registration forms are usually provided on line.

Mid-Winter Naturist Festival

Event organizers encourage volunteers to lead a workshop or other fun activity. For the Western and Eastern Naturist Gatherings, e-mail Nicky with a brief description, which day(s) and date(s) you will be attending, and your preference for morning, afternoon, or evening. To help organize your submission, you may use the Naturist Gathering Activity Signup Form. For the other events, volunteer through the venues organizing them. Note that five of the events on the tour take place in South Florida.

For some of the events further out, it may be too early for much detail to be available, but you're encouraged to mark the dates on your calendar now, "favorite" or bookmark the websites, and keep checking back for new information as the new year progresses.

Florida free beach roundup

This report on Treasure Coast Naturists (TCN) is repeated from last month because the information remains timely. TCN is revamping its website to provide online ordering of branded gear. Click or tap on the preceding link to check for lee updates and additions. The club continues to grow its membership, for which dues are $20 per year per household. Download an application form from the club's membership page or, if you have a PayPal account, submit the dues via paypal.me/tcnaturists and enter "MEMBERSHIP" where prompted to add a note. Feel free to add something extra (and make a notation) to help pay for the portable toilets in the north (main) parking lot of Blind Creek Beach in Fort Pierce, FL, which TCN provides and maintains (not St. Lucie County).

TCN is actively recruiting Beach Ambassadors for Blind Creek Beach. See the club's Beach Ambassador Program page for details. For additional information or to volunteer, send e-mail or call (772) 800-5841. TCN has a Happy Nude Year Skinny-Dip / Polar Bare Plunge on Saturday afternoon, January 1, 2019 on Blind Creek Beach.

Palm Beach Naturists (PBN) continues working on obtaining at least one clothing-optional beach in Palm Beach County. The PBN Board meeting that was scheduled for November 12 in Boynton Beach, FL had to be canceled at the last minute because the featured speaker was unable to be there. At press time, there was no new date announced. One significant date that is known, however, is the impending end of PBN's offer of lifetime, founding membership for $200, which expires on December 31, 2018. Regular membership is $25 per calendar year. Join Palm Beach Naturists.

Tampa Area Naturists (TAN) continues to collect signatures on its petition in favor of a family-friendly, European-style, clothing-optional beach in the Tampa Bay Area. The goal is 10,000 signatures and, at press time, the total was already more than 8,600. If you haven't already done so, please sign the petition to support this effort.

Colorado top-free court case: No news is... no news

In the February 2018 issue, we reported that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit had heard arguments on January 17 in the lawsuit against Fort Collins, CO's anti-top-free ordinance. A decision was expected by spring 2018, but the court has not yet ruled in the case.

This comes up now because of an article published on December 4 in The Coloradoan and titled, No ruling yet on 'Free the Nipple' topless ban lawsuit against Fort Collins. The court had granted in February 2017 a preliminary injunction against enforcement, pending its decision. The plaintiffs' attorney states that there have been no incidents. The court does not face any deadline and it is not known when it may rule, but the attorney opines that, the longer the injunction remains in place and there are no problems due to women going top-free, the stronger the case in the plaintiffs' favor.

SFFB Board meeting for December 2018 canceled

The Board of Directors of South Florida Free Beaches usually meets on the second Saturday of every month at 2:00 p.m. under the North Chickee (thatch-roofed shade structure) near lifeguard tower 15 on Haulover Beach unless another date and time or location is announced. The December 2018 meeting is canceled. Check this space in future issues for 2019 meeting dates.

The meetings are open to SFFB sponsors / members, supporters, and invited guests. Prior to setting out, check the upper left-hand corner of SFFB's home page at sffb.com (under Today's Beach Reports) for any change in date, time, or location due to unavailability of Board members or in case of bad weather, when the meeting may take place indoors.

Reminder: Join other naturist women and men and their families from Florida and the rest of North America for the continent's first regional naturist gathering in 2019. Come for any or all of the days — it's up to you!

This nude gathering features more than 215 scheduled activities, including a broad array of seminars, workshops, sports, meditation, yoga, music and dance (with nightly drum circle around a huge bonfire), and social activities. Although it's subject to revision, see the Festival schedule for an idea of what to expect. (Place your cursor over the document to open page controls.) There are also a couple of off-site events, which are excursions to Haulover Beach in Miami and Blind Creek Beach in Fort Pierce, FL.

Call to artists! A naturist-themed art exhibit will be on display at the Festival for the duration of the event. It is open to all artistic media, but the deadline for submission is January 15, 2019. Get details and instructions.

The Mid-Winter Naturist Festival is one of a series of Naturist Society-sanctioned nude events each year. Diversity is valued, and all are welcome. Pre-registration is encouraged for planning purposes, but not required. (It makes check-in quick and easy.) Hosted by The Tribe, it features Winter Wonderland Music Medley, live performances by a number of bands. All are welcome, but discounted rates apply for young adults (ages 18-30) and their accompanying partner.

Meanwhile, try Sunsport Gardens' naked drum circle, first Friday of every month from 9 p.m. to midnight. Entry is from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a ground fee of $5; visitors must depart by 2 a.m. Includes access to amenities such as the café, showers, pool, spa, sauna, volleyball and tennis courts, nature trail, etc. You must present your government-issued photo ID for admission.
