Happy nude year! Florida starts 2019 with a new governor, a new U.S. Senator, and a number of new U.S. Representatives and Florida State Senators and Representatives. The new Florida State Senator for District 38, which includes Haulover Park, is Jason Pizzo. South Florida Free Beaches / Florida Naturist Association, Inc. (SFFB/FNA) is reaching out to Senator Pizzo and providing him with background material on nude recreation in Florida and Haulover Beach in particular.

The Florida legislative session opens on March 5, 2019 and lasts 60 days, unless extended to handle unfinished business. Meanwhile, with new Florida legislators recently sworn in, legislative committees are starting to meet to prepare for the session. SFFB and its lobbyist, with the assistance of automated surveillance by the Naturist Action Committee, are monitoring the filing of bills for the upcoming session to ensure no harm to naturist interests. If anything comes up that requires grassroots action, we will inform you in future issues of this newsletter or, if necessary, in a special bulletin. If the call comes, please respond.
The 31st Annual Mid-Winter Naturist Festival is coming up next month, February 14-19, 2019. It takes place at Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort in Loxahatchee Groves, FL (14 miles west of West Palm Beach). I encourage you to attend for as many of the days as you can. Meanwhile, don't miss Sunsport Gardens' naked drum circle, the first Friday of every month. This month's is on January 4, 2019. Get details of the Festival and the monthly drum circle below.

Ocean City, MD allowed to enforce anti-top-free law
We reported in the November 2018 issue that a hearing on a preliminary injunction on enforcement of Ocean City, MD's emergency ordinance denying top-free equality while a Federal lawsuit against the ordinance works its way through the courts had been postponed from September 21 to December. Ocean City's motion against the injunction was heard in U.S. District Court for Maryland on December 7 and, on December 18, the court ruled in favor of the town.
Ocean City, MD may now enforce its ordinance while the court continues to consider the lawsuit on the basis of violation of equal protection of the law under the U.S. and Maryland Constitutions. We will continue to monitor and report on this. Six days of fun, growth, and community in the nude
31st Annual Mid-Winter Naturist Festival

Reminder: Join other naturist women and men and their families from Florida and the rest of North America for the continent's first regional naturist gathering in 2019. Come for any or all of the days — it's up to you!
This nude gathering features more than 215 scheduled activities, including a broad array of seminars, workshops, sports, meditation, yoga, music and dance (with nightly drum circle around a huge bonfire), and social activities. Although it's subject to revision, see the Festival schedule for an idea of what to expect. (Place your cursor over the document to open page controls.) There are also a couple of off-site events, which are excursions to Haulover Beach in Miami and Blind Creek Beach in Fort Pierce, FL.
Call to artists! A naturist-themed art exhibit will be on display at the Festival for the duration of the event. It is open to all artistic media, but the deadline for submission is January 15, 2019. Get details and instructions.

The Mid-Winter Naturist Festival is one of a series of Naturist Society-sanctioned nude events each year. Diversity is valued, and all are welcome. Pre-registration is encouraged for planning purposes, but not required. (It makes check-in quick and easy.) Meanwhile, try Sunsport Gardens' naked drum circle, first Friday of every month from 9 p.m. to midnight. Entry is from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a ground fee of $5; visitors must depart by 2 a.m. Includes access to amenities such as the café, showers, pool, spa, sauna, volleyball and tennis courts, nature trail, etc. You must present your government-issued photo ID for admission. The next two are on January 4 and February 1, 2019, respectively.
