August doldrums bring slow news, a couple of corrections

The annual Naturist Tour of nude gatherings and festivals that The Naturist Society Foundation (TNSF) organizes or sanctions, respectively, continues with the events listed below. The theme of the 2018 tour is Have a Nude Attitude. TNSF urges participants to sign up as soon as possible after registration opens for each event that they want to attend, which helps in planning. Registration forms are usually provided on line.
Corrections: Due to editing errors in this space in last month's issue, dates for a couple of events were garbled. The Western Naturist Gathering at Lupin Lodge in Los Gatos, CA (near San Jose) took place July 19-22. The Northeast Naturist Festival at Empire Haven Nudist Park in Moravia, NY (near Syracuse) opened on July 31 and runs through August 5. I regret any inconvenience caused by these errors. The dates are listed correctly on the official Naturist Tour page linked in the preceding paragraph.

Volunteers are encouraged to lead a workshop or other fun activity. Volunteer through the venue organizing each remaining event in the tour. Note that a couple of them take place in South Florida.

• Annual Young Adult Naturists End of Summer Fest, August 10-12, Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort, Loxahatchee Groves, FL (near West Palm Beach). Special rates for young adults (18-30).
• Lee Baxandall Memorial Volleyball Tournament, August 17-19, Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park, Gwillimbury, ON, Canada (north of Toronto)

The 31st Annual Mid-Winter Naturist Festival, February 14-19, 2019, kicks off the 2019 Naturist Tour at Sunsport Gardens (as above). Save the dates! Preliminary information is expected to be available, starting in mid-autumn.

Beach Ambassador training
Do you spend a lot of time on Miami's nude beach? If so, you have a chance to give back by volunteering as a Beach Ambassador (BA) to help maintain naturist standards on Haulover Beach and keep it safely nude for all to enjoy. Sign up for and attend a training to become part of a wonderful corps of volunteers.
BAs serve as beach monitors and greeters, a combination of block watch and welcome wagon. For their service, BAs at Haulover Beach get a cool hat, ID badge, and free parking on their duty days. Seasonal residents are welcome to participate.
The next Beach Ambassador training, tentatively a comprehen-sive, two-day session for Haulover and other Florida clothing-optional beaches, present and future, is scheduled in South Florida over the September 15-16 weekend. Ocean City, MD top-free lawsuit battle continues
In the July 2018 issue, we reported that, on May 9, the Town of Ocean City and several of its officials who were co-defendants in the suit (but were removed from it later that month) filed a motion to dismiss and, on June 29, the plaintiffs countered with a motion for a preliminary injunction against enforcement while the case is pending. On July 27, the Town hit back with a motion to dismiss the request for a preliminary injunction.
The court's decision on the latest motion may not occur for several months, but its outcome could give a strong indication of the direction of the case. We will monitor this story and bring you updates as they occur. B.E.A.C.H.E.S. nude cruise raffle kicks off in August
At press time, B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation Institute was continuing to put together the Keep Our Beaches Bare fundraising raffle that it runs every year with SFFB. The raffle is still expected to launch in August with a separate announcement. Keep an eye out for it!

SFFB Board meeting on Haulover Beach, August 11
The Board of Directors of South Florida Free Beaches usually meets on the second Saturday of every month at 2:00 p.m. under the North Chickee (thatch-roofed shade structure) near lifeguard tower 15 on Haulover Beach unless another date and time or location is announced. See below for the long-term schedule. Any planned exception to the second Saturday pattern is noted with an asterisk.
The meetings are open to SFFB sponsors / members, supporters, and invited guests. Prior to setting out, check the upper left-hand corner of SFFB's home page at sffb.com (under Today's Beach Reports) for any change in date, time, or location due to unavailability of Board members or in case of bad weather, when the meeting may take place indoors.
