Beach Ambassador training

Do you spend a lot of time on Miami's nude beach? If so, you have a chance to give back by volunteering as a Beach Ambassador (BA) to help maintain naturist standards on Haulover Beach and keep it safely nude for all to enjoy. Sign up for and attend a training to become part of a wonderful corps of volunteers.

BAs serve as beach monitors and greeters, a combination of block watch and welcome wagon. For their service, BAs at Haulover Beach get a cool hat, ID badge, and free parking on their duty days. Seasonal residents are welcome to participate.

The next Beach Ambassador training, tentatively a comprehen­sive, two-day session for Haulover and other Florida clothing-optional beaches, present and future, is scheduled in South Florida over the September 15-16 weekend. Florida free beach notices

Reminder: Treasure Coast Naturists (TCN), the group that mentors Blind Creek Beach in Fort Pierce, FL, holds its 4th Annual Blind Creek Beach Skinny-Dip on Sunday afternoon, July 15 in conjunction with the annual Nude Recreation Week. (See related article above.) Last year, 276 participants entered the ocean together. TCN hopes to break 300 this time.

Nelson, TCN President, has extended his nude yoga classes on Blind Creek Beach through the end of October. With few exceptions, he teaches the class every Saturday, 9-10 a.m., weather permitting. The classes are free, but donations are accepted, with a portion going to support TCN's operations.

Reminder: Palm Beach Naturists (PBN), the group seeking to reëstablish a clothing-optional beach in Palm Beach County, is holding its annual meeting on Monday evening, July 16 in Lake Worth, FL. The meeting is open to all interested, but only PBN members in good standing for at least 30 days may vote on matters. It's now too late to join in order to vote at this meeting, but new members are still welcome. Annual membership per household is usually $25, but it is on sale for only $5 through July 31, 2018. Lifetime founding memberships are available for $250 through the end of 2018.

Richard & Shirley Mason receive Hall of Fame Award

Richard and Shirley Mason, co-founders of Haulover's naturist beach, were honored on June 2 with AANR-Florida's 2018 Hall of Fame Award for their years of dedication to Haulover Beach, South Florida Free Beaches (of which Richard is President), and B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation Institute (of which Shirley is Founder, Executive Director, and Secretary). This ocurred while Shirley was attending AANR-Florida's summer meeting at Edun Lake in Naples, FL. AANR-Florida is the Florida region of American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR).

SFFB Board meeting on Haulover Beach, July 14

The Board of Directors of South Florida Free Beaches usually meets on the second Saturday of every month at 2:00 p.m. under the North Chickee (thatch-roofed shade structure) near lifeguard tower 15 on Haulover Beach unless another date and time or location is announced. See below for the long-term schedule. Any planned exception to the second Saturday pattern is noted with an asterisk.

The meetings are open to SFFB sponsors / members, supporters, and invited guests. Prior to setting out, check the upper left-hand corner of SFFB's home page at sffb.com (under Today's Beach Reports) for any change in date, time, or location due to unavailability of Board members or in case of bad weather, when the meeting may take place indoors.

Ocean City, MD top-free lawsuit in battle of motions

In the February 2018 issue, we reported that Chelsea (Covington) Eline, a top-free activist in Maryland, and four other women had filed a Federal lawsuit seeking an injunction against enforcement of an anti-top-free-equality ordinance that Ocean City, MD passed in June 2017.

On May 9, the Town of Ocean City and several of its officials who are co-defendants in the suit filed a motion to dismiss. On June 29, the plaintiffs filed a motion for a preliminary injunction against enforcement while the case is pending. Their attorney had asked the Town to refrain voluntarily from enforcement during that period, but it declined.

We will monitor this story and bring you updates as they occur. Meanwhile, read Ocean City files motion to dismiss topless civil suit and If granted by court, injunction would permit topless women in OC until final ruling made.

SFFB-endorsed slate elected to NAC/NEF Board

The Naturist Action Committee (NAC) has announced that incumbents Bryon Brandt and Don Zirbel and current NAC Area Representative Ron Weimer were elected last month to three-year terms on its Board of Directors, which also oversees the Naturist Education Foundation (NEF). SFFB's Board of Directors had endorsed all three candidates on the expectation that they would infuse NAC with energy and perspective, grounded on extensive, relevant experience.

B.E.A.C.H.E.S. nude cruise raffle kicks off in August

At press time, B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation Institute was in the midst of putting the final touches on the Keep Our Beaches Bare fundraising raffle that it runs every year with SFFB. The raffle launches in August with a separate announcement. Keep an eye out for it!

Reminder: Registration open for GNI annual men's nude Gathering; key deadline July 15*

Reminder: Registration continues for Gay Naturists International (GNI)'s 33rd Annual International Gathering of Male Naturists. The Gathering, also known as "Naked Camp," takes place August 17-26, 2018 in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Shorter attendance options are available. The location is about an hour-and-a-half's drive west of New York City, and GNI provides optional bus transportation from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Midtown Manhattan.

Hundreds of men come together at The Gathering for up to ten days of naked fun, camaraderie, education, and relaxation in a beautiful, rustic but comfortable setting with a lake; two heated pools; gym and courts for tennis, volleyball, and other sports; wooded trails; and rolling, manicured grounds.
* After July 15, a price increase of up to $64 kicks in, depending on the length of stay selected. Registration remains open, however, into August.

The registration fee covers housing in dormitory-style cabins (camping optional; RVs welcome, but utility hookups are not availa-ble), all meals, snacks, and beverages (including beer and wine), and events, activities, and entertain-ment (except optional Body Electric massage weekend workshop, Yoga Foundations weekend retreat, and add-on excursions, which require additional fees). Regular programming includes seminars and workshops, sports instruction and tournaments, massage and yoga practice, contests, shows, parties, bonfires, a nightly, naked Dance Club with live DJs and fantastic sound and lights, and much more! The Gathering is open to men aged 21 or over, regardless of orientation. Get info and register.
