† Donations to B.E.A.C.H.E.S., which are a deductible expense for U.S. income taxpayers to the extent allowed by law, will be used for naturist education, free beach advocacy, capital improvements to Haulover Beach or other clothing-optional beach sites, disability beach access program, and other purposes as listed in the scope of B.E.A.C.H.E.S.' mission (below) and SFFB's mandate.
* Beach Education Advocates for Culture, Health, Environment & Safety (B.E.A.C.H.E.S.) Foundation Institute is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational and charitable adjunct to South Florida Free Beaches (SFFB) / Florida Naturist Association. Its overall mission is to establish, protect, maintain, and improve the physical, social, and legal integrity of naturist (clothing-optional) beaches in the United States and Canada. See B.E.A.C.H.E.S.' full mission statement for details.
The President's Message column by Richard Mason, SFFB President, resumes in the October 2017 issue of this newsletter. On his behalf, I am including below his usual message about joining and/or donating to South Florida Free Beaches.
If you are not a current member of South Florida Free Beaches, please consider becoming one — numbers matter. At $35 per year for your household, it costs just 67¢ per week. A key benefit is the continued, clothing-optional use of Haulover Beach. How much is that worth to you? Join or renew at sffb.com.
SFFB also has a separate Legal Defense & Political Action Fund that supports its government affairs efforts and assists individuals cited for nude sunbathing. Even if you're not ready to (re)join just yet, please consider donating to this fund (not tax-deductible) to help with current challenges. Donations by bank check should be mailed to the address below (in e-mail version of newsletter). Thanks!
SFFB introduces limited-edition, embroidered Haulover Beach towels
South Florida Free Beaches has commissioned a limited edition of custom-embroidered Haulover Beach towels in two styles, multicolored stripes and U.S. flag-themed. Both feature the phrase, "Happiness is no Tan Lines at Haulover Beach," followed by SFFB's website domain name.
These soft, beautiful towels are made in Egypt of 100% cotton and embroidered in Miami, and their dimensions are 40" by 72" (101 cm by 182 cm). They are available at the SFFB information booth near lifeguard tower 15 on Haulover Beach. The operating hours vary with the availability of volunteers to staff it, but it's usually open, weather permitting, at least one day of each weekend from late morning to mid-afternoon and occasionally on weekdays.
These towels are intended as a fundraiser for SFFB's Legal Defense / Political Action Fund, which supports SFFB's government affairs program, including a paid lobbyist in Tallahassee, Florida's capital, who also represents SFFB to Miami-Dade County government. The fund also assists individuals who are cited for nude sunbathing. SFFB suggests a donation to the fund of $20 or $30 per towel, depending on selection.

Beach Ambassador training
Do you spend a lot of time on Miami's nude beach? If so, you have a chance to give back by volunteering as a Beach Ambassador (BA) to help maintain naturist standards on Haulover Beach and keep it safely nude for all to enjoy. Sign up for and attend a training to become part of a wonderful corps of volunteers.
BAs serve as beach monitors and greeters, a combination of block watch and welcome wagon. For their service, BAs at Haulover Beach get a cool hat, ID badge, and free parking on their duty days. Seasonal residents are welcome to participate.
The final Beach Ambassador training of 2017 is scheduled for Haulover Beach in Miami on Saturday, October 14. If you have any questions or wish to sign up for a training session, contact Ken.

Florida free beach updates
|
|
Reminder: Three Florida free beach groups plan a beach cleanup in their respective area in September in conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day. Community service is followed by social time. Read on for details.
Treasure Coast Naturists (TCN)'s September 16 coastal cleanup takes place on Blind Creek Beach in Fort Pierce from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Included is a fundraising raffle with great prizes centered on the theme, nudist destination vacations and gear. Raffle tickets are available at the TCN booth on the beach until 1 p.m., and must be submitted for the drawing before 2 p.m. Raffle rules, terms, and conditions are posted on the events page of TCN's website.
TCN actively welcomes new members and donors to help care for Blind Creek Beach, including the expense of maintaining port-a-potties in the parking lot, which TCN provides (not St. Lucie County). Annual dues are $20 per household, and you can find a TCN membership form via the first link in this paragraph.
To that end, TCN holds its next membership drive and naturist pool party at a private home in Jupiter, FL in Palm Beach County on Saturday evening, September 30. The party is for TCN members, but you may join on the spot. Save time at the door by filling out your membership form in advance. Dinner is potluck, so bring a dish to share. Follow instructions via the above link to RSVP and let the organizers know whether you will bring an appetizer, main dish, vegetable dish or casserole, or dessert.
Tampa Area Naturists (TAN) has its September 30 coastal cleanup on the beach at Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin, FL, 2-4 p.m. The 1st Annual TAN Tribal Council takes place at Sunnier Palms Nudist Resort in Fort Pierce, FL and Sunsport Gardens Family Naturist Resort in Loxahatchee Groves, FL, September 22-24, including time on Blind Creek and Haulover Beaches. Get dates and details of other TAN events at facebook.com/TampaAreaNaturists/events.
As TAN continues to build support for a clothing-optional beach in the Tampa Bay Area, it is actively seeking additional signatures on its online petition. Please sign it if you haven't done so yet, and ask your friends to do the same. (Article continues at top of next column.)

(... continued from previous column)
Palm Beach Naturists (PBN) has its September 16 coastal cleanup at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach, FL, 8-10 a.m. "Like" PBN's Facebook page at facebook.com/pbnaturists and subscribe to its e-mail list to be kept informed of developments.
PBN has a new website at palmbeachnaturists.org. Some key sections, such as membership, donations, and gear (PBN-branded merchandise) are still under development, so keep checking back for updates. PBN plans to offer, for a limited time, a Founding Member lifetime membership with a package of PBN swag for a one-time donation of $250. General membership will be available for $25 per year.

See below for the remainder of this year's schedule. Any planned exception to the second Saturday pattern is noted with an asterisk.
The meetings are open to SFFB sponsors / members, supporters, and invited guests. Paris opens naturist zone in city park on trial basis
We reported in the July 2017 issue that the City Council of Paris, France had postponed until 2018 implementation of a public, clothing-optional zone in Bois de Vincennes, one of the city's forest parks, which it had approved in September 2016. On August 31, however, the zone opened on a trial basis through October 15. For details, read Revealed: Paris opens first nudist park but no voyeurs allowed.
