NORTH PARKING LOT CLOSURE NEXT MONTH

Get prepared to get a bit of extra exercise walking to the beach. It looks like the construction of the the handicapped ramp from the parking lot to the east side of A1A is scheduled to begin sometime in January, although the exact date hasn't been set.

During this time, the closest parking will be the next lot south. We'll keep you informed as we get the word from Parks Administration.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD EVENT

There's good news and bad news.

The Bad News:
We didn’t do it. By 2:00 we had the registrations of 805 people.
The sea was a bit rough and cool, so those entering first, after being “clicked through” the gateway, were ready to get out by the time the last 300 entered the water.  The copter arrived just as the two groups switched places. In short, there is no photographic evidence of 805 people in the water at the same time.

The Good News:

We were so gratified to see over 800 people stop by our booth to support us and share our cake celebrating the 22nd anniversary of skinnydipping at Haulover. Registrants donated $1,130 to The Paralyzed Veterans of America-Florida Chapter PVA FL.  And everybody was having fun!

The Next Attempt

Should we try again next year? Whether or not we’re up for doing it again remains to be seen. It’s a lot of work as the event Co-Chairs, Perry Silver and Norma Mitchell, will attest. The SFFB Board will be voting on the matter. Your input is welcome.

I’m in contact with our friends who hold the record at Playa Vera in Spain. Although they wished us good luck, they were kinda hoping to hold the record longer than four months. Well, they got their wish.  Congratulacións, mi amigos. We’d love to see you in Miami and buy you a Mojito!

I also extend the invite to those hardy Welsh souls who set the first record. Have you seen their film? It's super! Take a look: Wales Skinny Dip.  They make us look like wimps when it comes to braving the sea. But the payoff was terrific.

A day like November 3rd doesn’t happen very often. Our beach community came together and had a great time. It was a real shot in the arm for South Florida Free Beaches’ Board of Directors and our right hands, the Beach Ambassadors. Seeing our friends en masse like that makes it all worthwhile.

Lots of people to thank: volunteers, SFFB member Erik (copter owner & pilot) and aerial photographer, Andrew Pantaleon, The Naturist Society, Gay Naturists International, B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation, our ever-vigilant lifeguards, who did extra duty that day to make sure we were safe, and Haulover Park staff. Our volunteer photographers took some great shots from the beach. Check them out on our website at www.sffb.com

Also special thanks to Carl Flick for his bodypainting demo, American Assn. for Nude Recreation (AANR) for their support and the beautiful banner they had custom made for SFFB as a thank you gift for all our work on Haulover Beach.

HAULOVER'S THE CAT'S MEOW, (unfortuantely)

As you may have noticed, there is a population of cats living in Haulover Park. SFFB has been asked to help capture them so they can be neutered and put up for adoption.

If any of you kitty lovers would like to assist in helping these homeless kitties, email our Beach Ambassador Louis at louisbeach@aim.com. This is what happens when thoughtless people "dump" unwanted pets creating a lonely and frightening life for these felines.

BTW, Louis has rescued a kitten himself! Anybody else want an addition to their family?

 A NATURIST'S HOLIDAY SONG

The talented artist, Ton Dou, created a holiday song from a naturist’s perspective. While on his site, check out the song he wrote for Haulover Beach. Ton is a member of SFFB and visits Haulover Beach whenever he’s in town. Ton Dou's Website

Happy Holidays back at ya, Ton!
