The original date of our attempt at the record was Sunday, July 14^th, the weekend we traditionally celebrate our “Beach Birthday” as well as National Nude Weekend, but tropical storm Chantal was breathing down our necks and, in deference to Mother Nature, we postponed a week. 

We watched the weather closely as the week progressed and three days out the odds for rain was between 40-50%. Even more worrisome were increased rip tides in the wake of Chantal. We decided for safety’s sake to postpone again until further notice. We notified the workshop presenters, photographers,videographers, registration witnesses, etc. Sincere apologies to anyone not getting word of the postponement. 

So here’s our new plan: on Sunday, November 3rd we’re gonna give it our best shot. We realize that having to postpone the event twice may put a damper on out of town visitors, but we guarantee that we'll be there unless the beach is closed by the park due to lightning, or the rain is blowing horizontal.

We’ll have our wristbands, clickers and “The Official Guinness Gateway” constructed by our own naked engineers. The majority of snowbirds will be in town to help fill out our numbers. Paralyzed Veterans of America will receive all registration fees collected from participants.

We received an email from a Spanish naturist friend saying that a Spanish Beach had set a new record. It hasn't as yet been verified by Guinness as they are reviewing the proof.

All attempts must fulfill counting requirements such as clicking each person into the water. They also like aerial film footage, if at all possible, and photo verification at the very least. Lots of hoops to jump through and forms to fill out and volunteer hours racked up.

We got some feedback from people who went ahead with their bookings and had a wonderful weekend at Haulover on both the postponed dates. Luckily for them the weather turned out nice, so the trip was worth it for a beautiful day at the beach.  

They came in from Chicago, Texas, South Carolina (a single woman), Bahamas, New York and Tampa to name a few. For several of them, it was the first time at a public clothing-optional beach. They were so happy and excited. So that was nice to hear.

We sure would like South Florida Free Beaches to hold the World Record. The event itself does much to dispel the stigma attached to all clothing optional beaches throughout the world.

Show up if you can and be counted (even if it’s under a big hat with large dark shades).  We’re also having some free health workshops and DIY body painting on Saturday, so why not make it a beach weekend?  Beach Potatoes MUST participate for once or be prepared to be harassed by our troops!
