BEACH AMBASSADOR TRAINING (& pizza party)

Show up about 10:00 by Lifeguard Tower 15 to help set up the Info Booth and receive training throughout the day.

Here's a nice letter from one of our BAs telling us of her experience:

"I love Haulover Beach and I spend 6-7 hours at the beach Fridays and Saturdays year round. I wear my beach ambassador hat and I find people respectful.  

I've learned that we're ambassadors and that diplomacy is a great asset and with that in mind I have only had good experiences. Tabitha is a great ally and is almost always available and easy to find.

We are blessed to have this beautiful beach, wonderful weather, fabulous lifeguards, and I really like being a beach ambassador with the hopes that this helps to keep the beach safer.

So thank you everyone who enjoys and appreciates what we have. It is quite a gift.....Paula”

LIGHTHOUSE BEACH HAS LOST HER FREEDOM

Lighthouse Beach is a section of the Fire Island National Seashore notable for being the largest recognized clothing optional beach in New York. On Feb 5, 2013, the FINS announced its decision to begin enforcing NY State anti-nudity laws on all Fire Island beaches, including Lighthouse Beach thus ending a 70 year tradition of clothing optional usage.

Positive vibes and thanks go to NAC as they develop strategy to overturn the change in policy. They’ve retained legal counsel, so the cost of protecting the beach has already started. If you can possibly make a donation to NAC, no matter what amount, you'll be helping to save perhaps the oldest traditional nude beach in America.  http://naturistaction.org/ .

Many fellow skinnydippers from Lighthouse Beach visit Haulover for their naturist beach fix during the winter season.

NEXT FLORIDA LEGISLATIVE SESSION

The 2013 legislative session begins on March 5^th and runs for 60 days. We have the Naturist Action Committee scanning the over 2000 bills and amendments for any words or phrases that may indicate there is anti-nudity legislation in existence.

SFFB has employed our lobbyist again for 2013's legislative session. We've been successful for over 20 years educating lawmakers and avoiding the passage of anti-nudity laws in Florida unlike many states. Our lobbyist also reviews bills looking for amendments. It is a very intense protocol, all to protect our (your) beach.

Several people recently were ticketed for being nude on Hickory Key, a traditional nude beach area. SFFB has been asked to help out. Should one of these people go to trial and lose, we could end up with bad case law in Florida.

YOUNG NATURISTS of AMERICA - Some Good News!

This group just had their 2^nd birthday. Their mission is to raise awareness in young adults as to the benefits of naturism. Marketing to the 18-35 segment, they host a variety of social events from New Year’s Eve parties to visits to local naturist resorts as well being involved in various social issues.

YNS's website http://nudistnaturistamerica.org/ is fun and insightful with an eye toward mainstreaming naturism through education. Jordan Blum and Felicity Jones (see left), the group’s founders, are bright, innovative people and their hard work is apparent. They even made the Wall Street Journal recently http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2013/01/18/for-new-york-nudists-winter-is-no-joke/.

They are joining us in our March Madness by offering their regular $22 annual membership for $15.00.

On April 3^rd our Clothing Optional Meet-Up Group will enjoy a private showing of playwright Annie Baker’s Obie Award Winning Play, “Body Awareness” at the Empire Theater in Fort Lauderdale.

FAWLTY TOWERS RAFFLE

The newest naturist hotel in Florida is right by Playalinda Beach, a beautiful, peaceful place. They donated a 3 day/2 night stay to our Legal Defense Fund. The tickets were sold at Sunsport Gardens during their Midwinter Festival.

The winner, Francine, is a Beach Ambassador (yay). Mayor Larry drew Francine’s winning ticket, so y’all know this was on the up and up.
