DVD premium offer for Political Action Fund contributors

Help support SFFB's political action activities to keep Haulover Beach clothes-free and support naturism in Florida.

SFFB each year needs funds to pay our legislative lobbyist, Ramon Maury
Associates in Tallahassee, and our new lobbyist in Miami-Dade County

This month there is an election in Miami-Dade County, on May 24th, to replace the executive mayor and two county commissioners.

It is important for our naturist issues and future improvements to Haulover Beach Park and the designated beach section to have in place elected officials that understand our issues and will support our efforts to protect the beach and our recommended park improvements.

SFFB has received campaign fund requests from those who are running for these county offices. We have also received requests from state legislators and their committees who have helped us in the past and are again running for public office.

We will mail a free copy of the Haulover Beach DVD (list price $19.95) to all making a contribution of $40 or more the the SFFB Political Action Fund through May 31st as our thank-you premium.

Congratulations to our friends at Lighthouse Beach on Long Island, NY, who have just announced that the closure of the beach to naturist use announced by the outgoing Chief Ranger in 2010 has been reversed by the new Acting Chief Ranger. The reversal is conditional upon lack of illegal activity. The situation here again only highlights the importance of the involvement of user groups in preserving naturist use areas.

The Lighthouse Beach group has instituted a Beach Ambassador program modeled on SFFB's program at Haulover Beach, to better guard against improper activity.

MEET THE SFFB BOARD:
Richard Mason, President

Richard was born in Boston ("Baaston") of Irish and Italian descent.   His career has been in sales and marketing. After moving to South Florida, he and his wife Shirley joined SFFB in 1983, just as Miami was closing VIrginia Key to naturist use.

Why? Richard's psoriasis treatments included sun lamps, and he couldn't understand why there wasn't a c/o beach where he could undergo the treatment au naturel.

Richard & Shirley were 2 key strategists and advocates for a new naturist beach, leading to the creation of Haulover's naturist beach in 1991.

A long-time active SFFB board member, Richard has over the years served several terms as President and as Treasurer; he is currently serving as SFFB President.

In 1994, when SFFB first employed a professional lobbyist to counter moves to enact restrictive anti-nudity legislation in the Florida legislature, Richard became chair of SFFB's Government Affairs Committee, a position he has held without interruption since. Through the years, he has attended numerous regional legislative delegation meetings, spoken before various county and local boards, and met with business and community leaders.

For his efforts on behalf of naturism, Richard was awarded the first-ever Lee Baxandall Naturist Leadership Award in 2005, by vote of the membership of The Naturist Society. It was well-deserved!
