South Florida Free Beaches Enewsletter:  August 2010

Dear Fellow Naturist,

First, we relay an Action Request from the Naturist Action Committee for letters to the California Parks Dept.  Please see below for details.

In this issue we also present two events of interest for Florida naturists:

The Florida Young Naturists End of Summer Bash takes place mid-August at Sunsport Gardens in Palm Beach.

Ticket for the November Florida Afterburn in Lakeland go on sale August 1st. Ticket prices increase as registration quotas are filled, so an early registration ensures the lowest cost.  This isn't a specifically naturist event, but SFFB will again be hosting its Naked CIty theme camp, where the burners meet the naturists.

Information on these events is presented below.

Planning is also under way for B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation's 2010/2011 Nude Year Festival at Haulover Beach Dec. 31, 2010 through January 2, 2011.  We'll be sending out information once details are finalized.  For a preview, you can check out last year's festival here.

The Haulover Beach video we mentioned in the last newsletter, that was shot during National Nude Weekend, featuring the World Record Skinny-dip, is still being edited.  If you wish, you can view a very short trailer here.  We'll make an announcement when the complete video is available.

NAC Action Request

"The Naturist Action Committee is asking you to write to California officials, expressing your SUPPORT for the petition presented by the Naturist Action Committee and its partners. In this instance, we need WRITTEN contacts (paper letters, faxes, e-mails)."

While letters from California residents are of particular importance, out of state naturists SHOULD ALSO WRITE and emphasize the importance of c/o beaches in making their vacation plans.

Non-California residents should also be aware that this issue may have MAJOR FUTURE IMPACT & INFLUENCE on the actions of state parks departments and other government entities in other states.

For the petition and supporting documents, and addresses and content for the requested letter of support go to:

CA PARKS PETITION PAGE

Background:  As previously reported, the CA Parks Dept. has revoked the 30-year-old Cahill policy of toleration of naturist use and started issuing citations at San Onofre State Park.

The CA Parks Dept. has the legal authority to designate clothing-optional areas in state parks.  On June 8th, NAC, with 14 other naturist organizations, sent a petition to the CA Parks Dept. requesting:

"...the Petitioners identified below do hereby formally request and petition the California Department of Parks and Recreation to set aside, designate and manage clothing-optional areas in the following units of the State Park system:

Bonny Doon - Santa Cruz County

Gray Whale Cove State Beach - San Mateo County

Auburn State Recreation Area - Placer County

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park - Santa Cruz County

Gaviota State Park - Santa Barbara County

Torrey Pines State Park - San Diego County

San Onofre State Beach - San Diego County

Fort Ord Dunes State Park - Monterey County

as well as in other State Parks, State Beaches and State Recreation Areas as may be added from time to time by request of the public."

Burn...

Florida Afterburn:
A Regional Burn of the Burning Man Festival

Maddox Ranch, Lakeland, FL

We might call this a camp-out counter-culture county fair....or maybe a temporary retro hippie commune?  What's it all about?

It's not a naturist event, though naturists are welcome.  Dress up in costume,or be nude....whatever!

You bring yourself, food, water and a tent.  There are no vendors.  Buying and selling are prohibited.  Most participants self-organize into a score of so of Theme Camps: gifting food, art, drink, performance art, music, or...whatever...to the community.  Come prepared: read the online "Survival Guide".

Check out more photos of the Spring Preheat event

Tickets ("Invitations" in Burn parlance) increase in price from $37.50 to $70 as registration tiers are filled.  Reserve now for lowest cost.  Absolutely no tickets will be sold at the gate.  You must register in advance.  For the last event, the maximum 600 participant number was hit a few weeks in advance of the event.  Open ticket sales start August 1st.
