The Skinny-dip
Haulover Beach official count of registered skinny-dippers: 748. (
Note this corrects the earlier reported tabulation of 725.) This was less than last year's count of 787. Unfortunately, many chose not to register or participate.
We beat out Gunnison Beach in New Jersey, which last year had 808 participants, and this year only 282. Threatening weather may have accounted for the low numbers at Gunnison.
It will take some time to tabulate results from the 100+ locations across North America to see if last year's total count of 13,648 will be exceeded. One location reported an increase; Lake Como Resort increased last year's 405 count to 452. National results will be listed on the AANR website.
On hand for the skinny-dip was Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director of AANR, with his family. Erich's daughter was interviewed for the new Haulover Beach video...

Beach Ambassadors: Haulover and beyond...
In 1996, at the request of Miami-Dade County, SFFB formalized its Beach Ambassador program. In 2004, Jack Kardys, now Director of Miami-Dade Parks & Recreation, noted that "The Beach Ambassadors are the key to a successful clothing optional beach."
The Beach Ambassador Program has been adopted by several other naturist groups.
1) In its program to regain nude use at California's Bates Beach (lost in 1999), the Nude Beach Alliance is proposing a Beach Ambassador program based on SFFB's at Haulover.
2) A Beach Ambassador program has been included in the proposal to Key West for a clothing-optional beach.
3) The Save Lighthouse Beach organization (NY) is now instituting a Beach Ambassador program at this popular but threatened clothing-optional beach at Fire Island National Seashore. They recently ordered 36 safari hats for their ambassadors.
Haulover Beach Video
During National Nude Weekend (July 10 & 11) Don and Dan of thingstodonude.com shot footage for a new video on Haulover Beach, including footage of the skinny-dip and beachgoer interviews. The video will include 3 segments: A Visit to Haulover Beach; The World Record Skinny-dip; and The History of Haulover's Clothing-optional Beach.
We'll let you know when the video is available.
Video was also shot by local Channel 10, that was shown Sunday July 11. Channel 41 (Spanish TV) also shot video and interviewed many beachgoers. A reporter for the New TImes was onhand, as was one from the nudist publication NUSA Sun. Articles should appear in these two publications shortly.
