Guinness World RecordTM Skinny-dip
Saturday July 10, 2010 at 3 PM - Haulover Beach
Last year Haulover was the #2 site with 787 skinny-dippers; Gunnison Beach registered 808 and was the #1 site. Help us beat last year's count and be the #1 nude beach in North America!
Registration to be counted will start around 10 AM.

Key West Update
At a May 18th meeting of the Key West City Commission, it was resolved to review and revise the Key West anti-nudity ordinance. This was proposed by Commissioner Teri Johnston, the leading commission proponent of a clothing-optional beach. This is a positive step after the disappointing action in April of having a review of locations for a c/o beach rather than accepting our suggestion of the east end of Smather's Beach. We'll keep you in the loop on further developments.
FL Legislative Session Ends
The session ended April 30th.
Thanks to those who called or emailed backing the Sobel amendment to SB 382, allowing local government to retain the ability to regulate fertilizer application to control runoff harmful to our waters. The effort was successful by a 21 to 18 vote.
Otherwise, it was a quiet year for naturist issues. This is an election year, so our lobbyist and government affairs committee members will have some new legislators to contact after November and provide them with our naturist informational packet.

Haulover Beach Concession
In April, the Miami-Dade Parks Department revoked the contract of Toby's due to nonpayment of fees. It has selected Boucher Brothers as the interim concessionaire until a concessionaire can be selected through the RFP (Request for Proposal) process.
Thanks to those who supported B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation's bid to be the interim concessionaire. B.E.A.C.H.E.S. will continue as a Parks Department Program Partner offering ice cream, fresh fruit, smoothies, tee shirts & other souvenirs, and naturist books at its Beach Mall stand.

TNS 30th Anniversary
This year marks the 30th anniversary of The Naturist Society. It's also the 30th anniversary of South Florida Free Beaches. There is a connection: TNS founder Lee Baxandall, and SFFB co-founder Tom Chittenden, were both involved in the effort to keep Truro Beach in Massachusetts clothing-optional in the 70s.
SFFB proudly acknowledges its 30-year association with The Naturist Society, and the contributions of the late Lee Baxandall.
