The Midwinter Naturist Festival at Sunsport Gardens was a success, despite some unseasonable cold weather. (The heated pool, hot tub and huge nightly bonfires helped a great deal to keep us warm!)
This year additional Festivals and Gatherings are scheduled for Pennsylvania, New York, California, West Virginia and Ontario.

Key West Naturist Beach Moves Forward 
Smathers Beach - east end - proposed naturist area
According to Alan Leigh of Florida Keys Free Beaches (FKFB), Key West's new mayor Craig Cates says the city will proceed with a clothing-optional beach area at Smathers Beach for a one-year trial period. There will be a public hearing on March 30th at 6 PM at Old City Hall, after which it is anticipated the City Commission will vote on the proposal. Keys area naturists who really want a clothing-optional beach should consider attending this meeting! We want as many supporters in the audience as possible!

The naturists had proposed they would provide signs for the beach, and Mayor Cates has notified FKFB that it will need to provide four. Three signs will be placed at the 2 dune crossovers, and on the sand at the start of the naturist area. The additional sign will be placed on the sand several hundred feet west to inform beach strollers that they are approaching the clothing-optional area.
Previous mayor McPherson had opposed a clothing-optional beach.
At this point we do not know the date when the clothing-optional beach will be officially available, but will keep you informed. We request that no nude use be attempted prior to official designation.
The Key West initiate started early in 2009 when members of B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation and South Florida Free Beaches (Richard & Shirley Mason, Albert Pantaleon) began meetings with Monroe County and Key West officials, and recruited Keys naturists that became the nucleus of Florida Keys Free Beaches.

BeachQuest 2010
A newly edited version of B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation's naturist beach presentation has been posted on its website. The presentation is designed for government officials, community leaders and business interests to explain the concept of naturist beaches. It addresses public acceptance, beach management, and economic benefits, and includes testimonials from officials on Haulover's naturist beach. Versions of this presentation have already been given to officials of Key West, Monroe County and the State of Florida.

Florida Young Naturists
A social group for naturists aged 18 to 30 years. FYN is a Special Interest Group member of The Naturist Society's Naturist Network.

Friday April 9 2010: The Florida Young Naturists Spring Drum Circle and Dance featuring live music, drumming, dancing and bonfire. Open to the public free of charge from 5pm-2am. All ages. Includes use of all amenities including 24-hour pool, spa and sauna.
Friday April 9- Sunday April 11, 2010: The 2nd Annual Naked Spring Bash hosted by the Florida Young Naturists. Free for ages 18-30 who have never been to Sunsport, only $6 a day for ages 18-30 who have been to Sunsport already. Free camping for all ages 18-30. Featuring live music, pool party, body painting, midnight skinny dips, haulover nude beach trip, yoga & meditation, drumming, dancing, bonfires and more.

Florida PreHeat
April 16 - 18, 2010, Orlando, FL
PreHeat is place where Burners from various cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies gather to participate in a temporary community filled with interactive art, music, and radical self expression.
This "regional burn" is a smaller version of the Burning Man Festival held annually in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada.

While this is not a specifically naturist event, nudity is permitted. Interaction with the "Burner" community is a great way to advance acceptance of naturism!
