Marion passed away peacefully in her sleep the weekend of September 19th at her home at Lake Como Resort in Land O' Lakes.  Marion was a board member of B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation and a long-time SFFB member who often helped out at Haulover special events, most recently the world record skinny-dip in July.  Marion had traveled the country widely, visiting many nudist resorts, and was an ambassador for naturism, appearing in many public forums through the years.  For many years she hosted the Lake Como singles group parties at her house.  She will be remembered for her warm smile and her many good deeds, including donating the hydraulic chair lift for the Lake Como swimming pool.

The election results are in from the Oct. 6th Key West municipal election.  

 

The good news is that now only 1 of the 6 commissioners is on record as a definite opponent of a c/o beach.  (He is newly-elected District 3 Commissioner Billy Wardlow.  This is our one major disappointment, as we had supported his opponent, Tom Lavender, who was in favor of a c/o beach.)

 

Also, the new mayor, Craig Cates, has said he would support a one-year trial of a c/o beach.  Former mayor Morgan McPherson was opposed to a c/o beach.

Despite a warning last month from the Parks
Department that they planned to begin issuing tickets for
nude sunbathing at San Onofre after Labor Day, no ranger
has appeared on the beach, and no citations have been
issued.

"Let there be no misunderstanding; NUDITY IS STILL
LEGAL AT TRAIL 6," wrote Allen Baylis of the Naturist
Action Committee in an email widely copied to nudists
around the country. "The DPR (Department of Parks and
Recreation) is simply trying to erode our numbers and
scare people away from the beach."

Baylis added, "Every time the DPR states that they can cite
at will, the media repeats the statement as if it were true. At
this time; THE SUPERIOR COURT ORDER OF AUG. 27
2008 STANDS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. The DPR
must follow the Cahill/Harrison Regulation."
NAC's position is that the Superior Court ruling that sided
with the naturists a year ago will stand until the state's
Supreme Court decides to hear an appeal, perhaps in
November.

"The California code of Civil Procedure says that while an
appeal is pending the original order stands," said Elva P.
Kopacz, the Naturist Action Committee's attorney.
An estimated 100 people attended a beach rally at San
Onofre on Sept. 13 and waved protest signs for the local
media, who was there hoping for a confrontation that never
came.

Friends of San Onofre thanked all who came. "We cannot
protect and advance our rights without standing up and
publicly acknowledging that we are naturists."
